Who are the Guardians?

We are a care and safety team at festivals, events, businesses, on the streets, and in our day to day lives. Our mission is to support our communities by being an approachable presence, a helpful resource, and a source of safety for all people. We are community members serving our own communities, whatever and wherever they may be. We don’t look for problems, we assist in solving problems as they arise with a grounded presence and clear state of mind. 

The most important part of Guardianship is to maintain safety of the community. Many times when security is in question, heightened emotional expressions come out. Knowing how to support someone emotionally, physically, and professionally is part of maintaining safety in all Guardian positions. Whether you have an interest in security, or an interest in emotional and psychological support, this course is designed to enhance your skills AND integrate practices that may not be so familiar. The Guardian Team was founded on an integrative approach of both roles. In holding an understanding of both security and emotional support frameworks, you will be better equipped to handle situations and communicate with team members. These two skill-sets, working in tandem with one another, creates a more complete picture of community care.

Operating with this mindset has led not only to successes with individuals and organizations we serve, but a thriving business model that is growing in size and demand. Over time, this organization has grown from a handful of people working small events, to a team that serves events with 10,000+ attendees. This model really works and we are here to share it with the world.

What is included?

These courses were designed to fully prepare a new member for their first day on shift with the Guardian Team, and serve as a knowledge base both on and off the field. After completing the modules you will walk away with information and practical exercises in de-escalation, mediation, and keeping the peace.

You may choose to take just one, two, or all three courses. We HIGHLY recommend taking all three, as each of the courses are valuable, complimentary, and build off of one another. Guardians have unique and varied skill sets, so learning about a field you may not be so comfortable in will assist you to have greater communication and collaboration with other departments, as well as increase your competence and scope.

Guardian Team Orientation

Green Dot Training

• What harm reduction is and the need for it
• Positions, roles, and expectations within the field
• How to identify someone in psychological distress
• The effects substances have on mental and physical states
• Recognizing when to outsource other services
• Toolkit and techniques to use with those in psychological/psychedelic crisis

Security Training

• Post, dispatch, and field training 101
• The history and need for a more conscious model of security
• Positions, roles, and expectations in the field
• Perspectives and values that drive the Guardian framework
• Security Toolkit and other de-escalation techniques
